RAF cadets receive Foundation funding for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions
Royal Air Force Air Cadets in Kingswinford are celebrating after being awarded funding from The Richardson Brothers Foundation.

2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron ATC applied to the Foundation for money so that 15 cadets can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The funding will go towards purchasing essential equipment for expeditions including tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, stoves and navigation tools.
The RAFAC is a youth organisation, sponsored by the Royal Air Force, dedicated to inspiring young people through adventure, leadership and aviation. The Kingswinford squadron is thriving with over 60 cadets aged between 12 and 20 meeting twice weekly as well as at weekends.
Chris Jones, committee member and grants lead for 2488 Squadron, said:
“We’re very grateful for this award which will help remove any financial barriers to our young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh programme. It ensures every cadet can benefit from these life changing experiences where they will explore the countryside, connect with nature and complete challenging expeditions.”
Jan Jennings, from the Richardson Brothers Foundation, added:
“The Foundation is pleased to support the armed forces as well as educational opportunities for children and young people. We’re delighted this funding will help Kingswinford cadets build confidence, resilience and teamwork skills that will benefit them in both service and civilian careers.”
