Leader of Birmingham City Council guest speaker at business roundtable
The Leader of Birmingham City Council, Roger Harmer, was the guest speaker at the latest Richardson’s Business Leaders lunch.
Councillor Harmer, the first Liberal Democrat Leader of Birmingham City Council, spoke to guests about how the ‘Fairer Birmingham Partnership’ agreement was designed to ensure the coalition cabinet works effectively throughout the political cycle.
He also spoke about his ambitions for the city and how Birmingham has the opportunity to drive economic growth for the wider region.
Councillor Harmer took a series of questions from the invited guests that covered skills, infrastructure, the bin strike and electoral reform. He discussed some of the challenges around housing and homelessness, anti-social behaviour and council resources and he pledged to continue a dialogue with businesses, giving a commitment to supporting small businesses.
Martyn Richardson, who hosted the event, said:
“Many thanks to Roger for joining us so early in his leadership and speaking directly with the business community. His passion for Birmingham was clear and we appreciated his candid discussion with the business leaders at the lunch.”
The Richardson family regularly hosts forums for business leaders, as well as national and local politicians at their West Midlands HQ, to look at promoting the wealth creation sector in the region.
