The Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and West Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association came together to present the family with the citation, explaining how their decades of support and patronage had made a tangible difference to their services and the men and women who serve in them. It highlighted the fact that seven members of the Richardson family had served in the Forces over the past century and emphasised how the family’s visible support had also helped to keep the Armed Forces in the public conscience, a crucial element in maintaining that most important link between defence and the society from which its members are drawn.

A covid secure event was held at the Richardson’s Midlands office where a formal presentation was made to Roy and Martyn Richardson by the Armed Forces representatives. The event was also attended by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley, on his penultimate day in office.

Roy and his twin brother Don founded the business, which continues to be family-led by Martyn, Lee and Carl Richardson, in the first half of the previous century. Today it has evolved into a dynamic real estate and private equity business with interests in a number of countries all over the world.

Royal Marines Brigadier Jock Fraser MBE ADC, Naval Regional Commander said:

“It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be here today to present a letter of appreciation to Roy on behalf of the armed forces family.

“Roy’s leadership, inspiration and support has made a tremendous contribution towards the wellbeing of numerous cadets, regulars, reservists and veterans from all three services over many years.

“We wish Roy well on his recent 91st birthday and thank the Richardson family for their ongoing support to those serving at home and abroad.

“Roy – we salute you.”

Carl Richardson said:

“Our family’s support for the military goes back decades. After the war, Roy and Don completed their National Service together in the RAF, and our commitment to all branches of the Armed Forces continues to this day.

The entire family were very touched by the letter of commendation that was presented to Roy and Martyn in recognition of the support and close relationship that endures between our family and the Forces, and we look forward to continuing to do our bit to help the brave men and women who sacrifice so much to protect and secure our country in the future.”
