Foundation supports students into work

Students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Sandwell are enjoying fulfilling work placements, with extra support from the Richardson Brothers Foundation.
The Westminster School in Rowley Regis is a dedicated special school committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with diverse and complex needs. Encouraging them into work experiences with local businesses is an important part of their development programme.
The school applied to the Foundation for help with pre-placement visits, special travel arrangements and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) costs, helping to remove any barriers to participation.
Jenny Onafowoken, Assistant Headteacher, said:
“We are so grateful to the Richardson Brothers Foundation for supporting our students with their work placement experiences. As a school we have some fantastic partnerships with different businesses from retail to hospitality and from automotive to health and social care.
“However, many of our students need additional support for them to enjoy their work placements safely. This funding is such a massive boost for us, as it takes a lot of pressure off with regards to travel, uniform and PPE.”
Jan Jennings, from the Richardson Brothers Foundation, added:
“It was an absolute joy to visit some of the Westminster School students in their placements and to see them hard at work. The school does a great job equipping their learners with life and work skills. The young people I met were so fulfilled and happy at work and we’re delighted that the Foundation has been able to help them with their placement programme.”
